Cooler weather is just what the doctor ordered… or should I say my husband ordered, who is definitely not the doctor. He has asthma, and the hot weather just about does him in, if you know what I mean. So he is definitely looking forward to cooler days.
Cooler days makes it a bit easier on the quilting too. I like hand quilting and trying to quilt a big quilt on my lap is mighty warm in the summer. Some day I will break down and do some machine quilting. I have only done this a couple of times, and then it was only straight lines, so I need to learn to do some of the meandering, or stipple quilting. I think it is so pretty. I have some books of quilting designs and they could be used on hand quilting or machine quilting. I have a book by Karen McTavish called “Mastering the Art of McTavishing” and I am inspired by that book.
I have not tried paper piecing yet but have seen several pp patterns that look very nice and think I might try that soon.
My friend Barbara wants to make a Double Wedding Ring quilt for her dad and I had templates from Shar Jorgenson that I let her use. She has just about got all the little pieces cut out.
I found another DWR pattern in a book “Scraps” by Judy Martin called "Monet’s Wedding Ring" and it is all straight cut and sewing… no curves. I think I would like to try that one. It is very different but very pretty.
Have a great quilting day.
