In fact it’s almost here. I have done some hand quilting on Barbara’s quilt. I was in the hospital for a week with a bleeding ulcer, and hand quilting is about all that I have energy for. But I am slowly getting better. I am almost never really sick except for a cold or sinus infection or so, but this past year I have had more illness than the rest of my life combined. But I do have my quilting to fall back on when I don’t feel like doing anything else.
The trees and flowers are blooming and pollen is high, but even with that I am so glad to see spring come. Guess I have spring fever or cabin fever or a combination of both.
I updated my quilt design software to EQ6. I haven’t played around with it a whole lot yet. I was playing with the older version whenever Barbara had chemo and I would go sit with her during the time she was getting the chemo. But her cancer markers are down (thank you God!) and she doesn’t have chemo for another couple of months. She still has blood work weekly, but unless something changes, no chemo for awhile.
Barbara has a quilt she pieced and hand-tied and it just needs a binding put on it. I am going to teach her to machine quilt by the block. She would rather learn on something small and then put it together than to work with a full-sized quilt that is cumbersome and hard to handle for a newbie to quilting. Then after she gets the hang of it she can do a whole quilt with confidence. She is just learning to sew and quilting is her means of learning. So far she has done a top by machine and one by hand piecing. She is doing great.
I have not been to the nursing home since I got sick last fall. I am feeling better and look forward to going back to the group there and quilting with them. I have missed seeing them and was told that they are anxious for me to come back. They are a special group of people and I have really missed seeing them.
Until the next time we talk: When life hands you scraps, make a quilt.
